Car racing and projects

Here at Motech and being real petrol heads, we are involved with car racing, that is to say, the preperation and building of, the cars, prepairing and building race engines, and competing in various events. We are however this year runing a German spec Ford Fiesta ST cup car, which we are converting to compete in the Dunlop Motorsport News championship. Some of the mods we are carrying out are the fitting a throttle bodies, this has resulted in a 15 BHP increase to 185.6bhp, and a better spread of torque and power through out the rev range. We are also extensivly lightning the car, by fitting lightweight panels and windows. This again has resulted in loosing 60k with more to come. We tested the car at Mallory park for the first time this year, which has highlighted some more problems. the main two is the roll centre at the front is far to low, owing to the angle of the bottom arms, also the 5th gear is to high resulting in a 2000 rpm drop between 4th and 5th. The other problem is inside wheel spin, so we will be fitting a LSD.

Our first event in this car was at Mallory Park, in Leicestershire, and being fully televised by Men & Motors TV, we were realy looking forward to it. Stuart Thomas our driver qualified on a 54.4, which was respectable considering it shortcummings, listed above. but onto the race, and with a power cut, we were informed the race would start the old fashioned way with the drop of the flag, after the two warm up laps. This was a rolling start, and with the first lap completed, and into Gerards for the 2nd time, Stuart is hit from the car behind him, sending into the tyre wall, and recing the car and our day. O well thats racing, or is it ?

We also carry our repairs, and mot tests to Clasic cars, and motor cycles, specialising in Ford motor cars. We are at present carrying out a full restoration, and rebuild of a Ford Anglia 105E , into a very special Anglia Lotus twin cam. I will update you as we go.
